Meet our Director
Hello! My name is Jennifer Davey.
I am excited to open up First Steps Montessori Learning Center to share my passion about Montessori and its benefits with this young and growing community. Montessori has enriched my life in my roles as an educator and mother, and I have watched it transform the lives of my children, students, and their families.
Jennifer Davey
I was born in England and moved to Plano, Texas in 1991, due to my husband's job. We have two children who were ages 4 and 2 at the time.
In England I had been working in Hotel and Catering Administration and Local Government, but after the birth of my first child, I realized that I would much rather be working with children than in the field of business. I began to look for training opportunities and quite by chance came across Montessori. It just made so much sense and was what I had been doing with my children. I was able to complete the teacher training and received a diploma from St. Nicholas Center in London before relocating to the states.
I taught for five years with Montessori Unlimited in Plano and then was invited to become the Director at Montessori New Beginnings. Five years later I moved to Redeemer Montessori School in Irving Texas, where I served as Director for ten years. In 2003 my husband and I moved to San Antonio to be with my daughter and son-in law who were expecting their first child.
I became Head of St. Paul’s Episcopal Montessori School in downtown San Antonio, a position I held for eight years. My granddaughters attended the school with me.
When COVID hit, I took time out and did “Montessori at Home” with my grandchildren, which has been such a blessing.
I have found my calling. Aside from God and my family, Montessori is my passion. I did not have the opportunity to attend a Montessori School as I grew up, but I made sure my children and grandchildren did.
Ever since I discovered this wonderful method of education, I have wondered what it would be like to open up a school, but was never brave enough to try. Then three years ago, I was approached about opening up a school for this community in what was once a nonprofit corporate office building. God’s hand truly was in this, and it has been a joy to watch the transformation of the building into this beautiful little school.
There are so many young families in this growing community, and I want to make sure your children have the opportunity to have a quality Montessori Education close by.
I am happy to take on this responsibility and open the doors to a brand new school here in San Antonio.
